Anyone who may have recently tried to gain a copy of their credit file would've found that accessing this information just got more expensive. The interesting thing is that although it doesn't appear on most credit reporting bodies (CRB) main web page, you are still entitled to be able to obtain this information free of charge.
Sec 20R, 21T outlines that a CRB under Part IIIA an individual has a right to obtain their credit reporting information free of charge in the following circumstances;
- if the access request relates to a Credit Providers (CP) decision to refuse the individual consumer credit
- if the access request relates to a decision by a CRB or CP to correct credit reorting information or credit eligibility information about the individual; and
- once every12 months
Ironically the next line in the privacy code states that 'to ensure that its service, whereby individuals may obtain their credit reporting information free of charge, is as available and easy to identify and access as its fee-based service'
Sorry Veda but a quick look at your website and you would think that you can only access this information by paying for their membership subscription.
I would highly recommend everyone obtain a free copy of their credit file every 12 months to 2 years to make sure that there are no unauthorised enquires and the information is correct because now more than ever this information will be important when a lender analyses your application for finance.
